Junya Watanabe Man Mohair Knit Cardigan

01

01. Polyester lined.

Words

While I’m always appreciative of the outstanding details on Junya Watanabe pieces, sometimes it's the items exercising restraint that bowl me over the most. That’s how this warm winter cardigan struck me on first sight. The elbow patches and pockets are in keeping with the line’s usual flourishes, but rendering them in black against a dark knitted body results in something altogether more wearable.

Words

After rumours circulating for the past year or so, tomorrow sees Totokaelo open at 54 Crosby Street in New York City. The 8,400-square-foot, five-story space will boast one of the most impressive brand lists around, with selections from Maison Margiela, Haider Ackerman, Vetements, Dries Van Noten and Junya Watanabe, among a variety of others. Offering men's and women's collections alongside footwear, accessories and homewares, all in a beautiful environment, the retailer would be a welcome arrival in any city.

Words

The latest edition of T Magazine features a men's editorial focused on modern denim. Spring pieces by Bottega Veneta, Yang Li, Loewe, Craig Green and Junya Watanabe are highlighted along with other seasonal items. Photographed by Oliver Hadlee Pearch and styled by Carlos Nazario, the short editorial does a nice job of exploring a thoroughly documented fabric in menswear.

Junya Watanabe x Seil Marschall Reversible Cotton Jacket

01

Images

—01. Reversible.
—02. Made in Japan.

Words

Seil Marschall, makers of exquisite outdoor gear since 1896, seems like a spectacular fit for a collaboration with Junya Watanabe. The fruit of that union is this reversible shirt-jacket. One side is more conventional, taking cues from utility jackets, while the other offers a bolder, patchwork feel, embellished with zipped pockets.

Words

The Spring-Summer Junya Watanabe collection features a muted colour palette overall, with plenty of black, greys and blues. This pair of cinch back trousers offer a cropped cut, a tapered leg and a subtle use of pattern on a soft, lightweight wool fabric.

Junya Watanabe MAN Garment Dyed Twill Coat

Words

'Reasonably priced' is an objective statement when it comes to fashion, and especially when it comes to Junya Watanabe. So let's ignore the cost for the moment and concentrate on the details and the design, which, on this piece, are in abundance without being overpowering. Here the details are practical; adjustable cuffs, rear vent, and side entry compartments, while the contrast herringbone fabric on the patch pockets makes for a subtle and wearable take on a traditional Watanabe design cue.

Junya Watanabe MAN Cotton Canvas Mac

01

Images

01. Corduroy roll over cuff.
02. Snap adjustable rear vent.

Words

There's always one or two Junya Watanabe pieces every season that really stand out for me. This Cotton Canvas Mac is the real winner. The khaki cotton next to the corduroy cuff and collar trim, longer length and interesting pocket arrangements all make it a great jacket for fall.
