01. Made in Italy.

Words

A handful of Spring-Summer '16 items have begun to populate the Totokaelo online store, including the first delivery from Margiela. This camel coloured jacket is certainly a standout, made in Italy from calf suede, with minimal pockets and extended cuffs.

Nousaku S/N Bookend

01

Images

01. Sold individually.
02. Made in Japan.

Words

I've found it surprisingly challenging to track down really nice bookends in the past year or two. They either seem too big or the cost is prohibitive, but this set from Nousaku are some of the best I've seen lately. The shape, size and weight are all ideal, and I like the space within the object itself. While they still aren't especially cheap, they're a functional item, on top of being nice to look at.

Jil Sander Maremma Derby

01. Black calfskin.

Words

I don't usually think of footwear when it comes to Jil Sander, but this season the label have produced a handful of interesting styles, including the Maremma Derby. The small heel combined with the outer layer around the base of the upper give the Italian-made shoe a unique yet casual look, that feels quite versatile.

Words

Phillip Low's small sculptures have a somewhat otherworldly feel, particularly in the way that they manipulate light and colour. The hand-milled geometric prisms are made from sheets of Perspex and acrylic, and come in a variety of slightly different shapes, each one with its own unique character.

Words

After rumours circulating for the past year or so, tomorrow sees Totokaelo open at 54 Crosby Street in New York City. The 8,400-square-foot, five-story space will boast one of the most impressive brand lists around, with selections from Maison Margiela, Haider Ackerman, Vetements, Dries Van Noten and Junya Watanabe, among a variety of others. Offering men's and women's collections alongside footwear, accessories and homewares, all in a beautiful environment, the retailer would be a welcome arrival in any city.

Adonde at Totokaelo

Words

The modern and inspirational Seattle-based retailer, Totokaelo, always has an interesting selection of unique items in their Art-Object section. You can add the French company, Adonde, to that list, from which they have recently received a large selection of ceramic pieces. The modern forms fit perfectly on a shelf next to the shop’s other offerings, with the hallmark of these designs being vaguely futuristic vertical walls and solid colours that renounce the organic, handmade feel of other pottery and imbue these everyday objects with a decidedly contemporary feel.

Adidas by Raf Simons Stan Smith Spring 2015

Words

I can't recall, in my relatively brief experience of the industry, a shoe being released to such acclaim only to be so overdone and over-worn in such a short period of time. It's truly a testament to the modern landscape and how quickly trends are moving today. That said, if any shoe can stand up to the hype and navigate the varying levels of appeal and acceptance, it's the Stan Smith. This spring Raf Simons has again re-coloured the shoe in solid tones, the pale pink and clear sky being the standouts for me personally.
