NikeLab ACG

Words

Nike's relaunch of the ACG collection has been much anticipated, but I was a little skeptical when I first heard the news. It would have been easy to simply reproduce old styles and colourways in updated fabrics. However, by enlisting Errolson Hugh they've been able to push the collection forwards. The latest rendition of ACG appears to be an exciting step in the right direction, finding a balance between style and functionality which was always at the brand's core. The footwear is well done, but it's the outerwear and tops that are the most enticing.

Max Bill Variation 12 Poster

Words

Max Bill’s poster designs may not receive as much attention as other Bauhaus schooled designers, but it is the basic tenets of ‘continuity’, ‘development’ and ‘invention’, not to mention the tasteful use of a variety of colours, that make his Variation series so successful as works of art that can be hung in any home. Released with permission from the Max Bill Foundation in 2007, these are a great, affordable option for adding some brightness to your wall.

Words

Some of the Fluxus affiliated artist Joseph Beuys' best known and most enigmatic work comes in the form of his multiples, a calling card for this avant-garde 1960s art movement descended from Dada and Marcel Duchamp’s readymade sculptures. A retrospective of these items opened earlier this year and runs until January 11th, 2015 at Munich’s Pinathotek der Moderne. For anyone far removed from this locale, the simply designed website is a veritable online museum, exhibiting all the multiples chronologically with exhaustive information about the pieces and the artist himself.

Words

It's been a couple of seasons since Converse Addict released a shoe that made the overseas purchase worthwhile. The latest edition of the low top Chuck Taylor comes in a black suede, which feels closer to a nubuck in person. The thick Vibram sole provides superior cushion and comfort, and you have the option between black or white laces.

Kodo Kiyooka Ceramics

Words

Kodo Kiyooka is well-known for his straw ash glazed, heat-resistant vessels but some of his other pieces, like a lot of Japanese ceramics, exist in a realm slightly closer to fine art. Intended for everyday use, their handmade, one-of-a-kind nature make them as decorative as they are functional.

Words

One of our last deliveries of the season came from Needles and included this incredible jacket from the Rebuild collection. Mixing an M-65 with an MA-1 could go very wrong, but the Japanese brand have managed to create a unique, interesting and very wearable piece.

Tricker’s Low Leg Logger Boot

01

Images

01. Calf leather upper.
02. Commando sole.

Words

These British logging boots utilize the exacting craftsmanship we all expect from Northampton-based footwear specialists Tricker's. While still thoroughly rugged, they also have an undeniably refined silhouette and perhaps pair more uniformly with less casual outfits that include trousers, knits and blazers; a look not entirely possible with versions produced by many North America brands.
