Rebuild by Needles Brown Duck Arrow Jacket

Words

This variegated amalgam of brown duck canvas fabrics adds a lot of visual interest to the fairly basic Arrow Jacket by Needles. Having poked around in a number of shops before finding this hunting piece, it's apparent that patchwork is a prevalent trend this season. Many brands seem to be doing it for the novelty of pairing disparate fabric panels, but the Rebuild line uses this approach as its signature season after season, crafting entirely new one-off creations from a wide range of vintage items.

Rebuild by Needles Coach Jacket

Words

The last few seasons have seen a real upswing in the popularity of the coach jacket style, but none have stood out as distinctly as this Rebuild by Needles version. Constructed from repurposed army surplus garments, and adorned with chest pockets, button plackets and name badges, it would be pretty tough to confuse this with any of the more overtly bland options available, by obvious comparison of course.

Words

The Needles Spring-Summer ’15 lookbook was recently released on the Nepenthes site, and features Keizo Shimizu’s customary reworkings of vintage, military and sportswear classics with his unique sensibility. There is also a sneak peek at a number of completely new styles from the Rebuild by Needles sub-line; the most outstanding of which are the hunting shirts that utilize a vast array of woodland, duck hunter and desert camouflage, just to name a few.

Rebuild by Needles M-65 x MA-1

Words

One of our last deliveries of the season came from Needles and included this incredible jacket from the Rebuild collection. Mixing an M-65 with an MA-1 could go very wrong, but the Japanese brand have managed to create a unique, interesting and very wearable piece.

Words

These Rebuild by Needles pieces bear a strong resemblance to something we might see from Comme, but that doesn't take away from the great look and interesting re-imagining of the two garments put together. While there are also some jacket styles available, these layered long coats are especially beautiful, mixing different patterns, tones and textures for a very successful outcome.

Words

The Rebuild by Needles collection continues to grow and this season it includes some really interesting outerwear. The shirts, however, have become a staple at our shop, and they're one of my favourite pieces from the brand. The 7 Cut Flannel comes in a variety of one-off options, now available online and at both of our stores.

Rebuild by Needles Hooded Sweatshirt

Words

The flannel shirts and olive drab pieces are certainly the more common models in the Needles Rebuild lineup but these hooded sweatshirts are my choice for a wearable and innovative reworking and assemblage of pre-owned clothing pieces.

Needles Rebuild BDU Mods Parka

Words

The Rebuild project by Needles continuously offers interesting and ultimately unique pieces of clothing. While a lot of the items are a little too tricky for my tastes, there's something about the Mods Parka that feels just right. With so much going on, the multiple panels, tones, and fabric variations somehow make more sense on a larger scale, and while I'm probably not ready to pull the trigger yet, I'm sure plenty of others are little more brave with their outerwear choices.
