Converse Jack Purcell Signature Jungle Cloth

01. Wind. Water. Whatever.

Words

Earlier in the year, following on from their success with the 1970s Chuck Taylor, Converse released a modernized take on the classic Jack Purcell style. Rather than scrap what had been so successful over the decades, they went back to their roots, thickening the canvas, and updating only the things that matter. One of the innovations was the introduction of Nike Zoom Air Technology, improving the comfort and longevity exponentially. This season the Boston-based brand has gone one step further, adapting the winning formula that has already found a home on thousands of pairs of feet, by introducing the Signature edition in a new jungle cloth fabric. Inspired by the deck jackets worn by the US Navy in the 1940s, the shoe boasts a densely woven, water-repellent Bedford cord upper and a canvas inner lining to help keep feet warm and dry in the worst of weather conditions. Completed with an Ortholite footbed, and a herringbone outsole for improved traction, they're a great update to an already excellent shoe. Available in two colours, you can purchase a pair directly via the links below.

Converse have also debuted a unique and interactive advert to coincide with the model's release. Eschewing typical print and online expectations, they are working exclusively with Inventory to host the one-of-a-kind campaign on our Instagram feed. You can follow the updates throughout the day, with the bigger picture soon to be revealed.

As part of their ongoing 35th anniversary celebrations, Stussy have worked with Converse on two pairs of 1970s Chuck Taylor All Stars, both of which use the California brand's iconic Tom Tom pattern as their base. To mark the release of these special edition models, Liam MacRae shot this short video piece in Malibu, featuring a local steel pan drummer, as the sun set over the Pacific.

Words

It's been a long time coming, but Converse have finally updated one of the most iconic shoes ever made. In production since 1917, the Chuck Taylor has become a part of most people's lives in one way or another. This summer the US sneaker brand have appointed the model with a Lunarlon sockliner, micro-suede interior, premium canvas construction and a padded non-slip tongue. The aesthetic of the shoe remains relatively unchanged, with the subtle injections of innovation somewhat hidden within. While I haven't tried a pair on yet, it seems as though the upgrade has been a successful one.

Words

Since Converse introduced their 1970s line of Chuck Taylor All Stars, I’ve greatly enjoyed how simple they’ve kept it, while still rolling out some totally unique and sometimes daring special versions each season. This leather low-top model is rendered in a muted monochromatic colour palette and certainly splices these two approaches with the addition of a leather toecap and rawhide laces.

Words

This month Converse are launching an updated and upgraded version of the Jack Purcell. The simple sneaker has long been an iconic style, but this premium edition, which – to name a handful of the 18 new features and benefits – includes a two-ply duck canvas upper and an Ortholite insole embedded with Nike Zoom Air Technology, is a welcome addition to the brand's offering that is likely to be a huge success.

Words

It's been a couple of seasons since Converse Addict released a shoe that made the overseas purchase worthwhile. The latest edition of the low top Chuck Taylor comes in a black suede, which feels closer to a nubuck in person. The thick Vibram sole provides superior cushion and comfort, and you have the option between black or white laces.

Words

It would be difficult to argue that the 1970s Chuck Taylor models haven't been a huge success for Converse. After only a year and a half on the market, they've quickly become the go-to shoe for men and women wanting a more premium All Star option. This fall is the first time they've released suede versions of the style outside of their First String program, with two colours now arriving at select retailers.

Words

While not as understated as the numerous solid colour '70s Chucks out there, this red, white and blue version might be the right choice for those that appreciated the ‘stars and stripes’ model released earlier this year, but felt they couldn’t quite pull them off. Slightly more wearable than those, the tricolour design feels simple enough but is sure to attract a little more attention than standard editions.
