Pleh at Shoot the Lobster

Info

138 Eldridge Street
New York, NY 10002
July 13 – August 10, 2014
Organized by Alexander Shulan.

Words

Lower East Side gallery Shoot the Lobster look to continue their overlap with the world of techno by enlisting Uno NY affiliated oddball music producer Gobby and his friends Nicholas Buffon and Allegra Crowther for their current show. The result is a wonderfully imaginative alternate universe filled out by madcap illustrations and beautiful model recreations of the relative squalor associated with downtown life. The exhibition ends this weekend, so there's only a few days left to see this peculiar and strange group show.

Images

01-02. Photography by Keisuke Fukamizu.

Words

With autumn on its way, Visvim released campaigns for their FW14 men's and women's collections this week. While the offering is a bit more colourful than we've seen in the past, taking inspiration from old native tribes and motorcycle culture, Hiroki Nakamura continues to push his vision for the brand forwards through fabrication and technology.

Nonnative Dweller Down Vest

01

Image

—01. Concealed zipper.

Words

Once again Nonnative's fall collection looks very impressive. The tones, the layers, the fabrics and the lengths of the garments all seem to go perfectly with one another, but looking at things individually, there are several standout items. This down vest comes in four colours and provides just enough insulation, while offering a unique look with its vertical tubes and round collar.

New Balance 999CRB

01

Image

01. Suede upper.

Words

I always prefer the grey versions of classic New Balance models. They’re fresh, simple and free of ostentation but every once in a while I could do with just a little colour. This pair bridges the gap between some of the brighter 999s and the most basic grey ones. The subtle use of blue and tonal greys is about as tasteful as it gets.

01-02. SS15.

Words

Rough & Tumble is one of the lesser known brands under the Nepenthes umbrella, but with the collection more widely available in North America and Europe this spring, its increased visibility looks set to continue. For SS15 their offering features a variety of patchwork shirts, among other styles, mixing patterns, stripes and tones with obvious success.

02. Campaign imagery.

Words

With art direction by Tony Cederteg and photography by Anders Kylberg, the campaign for Comme des Garçons SHIRT's second collaboration with Erik Schedin makes the shoes look even more appealing. Playing with shapes and black and white tones, the visuals compliment the three simple styles perfectly.
