While I greatly appreciate the care and attention put into every Visvim collection, there is often one piece that jumps out more than all the others, seeming like it would slide right into a vacant space in my closet. This season that would have to the be the Nomad Jacket. The brand's staple parka looks particularly good in this vivid red colour, and the Gore-Tex shell, button-up storm flap, and drawstring hood with a fold-out brim would make it very useful in the coming months when sunshine turns to rain.

The search for the perfect denim jacket is a fickle one and not entirely realistic with so many varieties available. There are those that choose vintage or the traditional recreation route, favouring chore coats or early Levi’s models, but this option from the Japanese brand, Niuhans, echoes 20th century designs, while retaining a contemporary feel with its light wash and basic simplicity.

Up until recently Paraboot footwear was more widely available in Europe and Japan, but over the last couple of seasons it has started to make its way into select retailers in North America. In my fascination with the French shoemaker I’ve come across a large selection of styles and colours, but never these navy blue models with contrasting cream soles. Given the brand's fairly low profile on this side of the pond, it's a colourway that represents an especially unique choice.

Paraboot’s excellent Norwegian welted shoes have had a definite resurgence in recent years and become an intelligent and unique option for discerning customers. Their boot designs haven't had as much recognition but this leather-lined hiking style is just as well made, featuring D-ring eyelets and the same waterproof welting.

I always prefer the grey versions of classic New Balance models. They’re fresh, simple and free of ostentation but every once in a while I could do with just a little colour. This pair bridges the gap between some of the brighter 999s and the most basic grey ones. The subtle use of blue and tonal greys is about as tasteful as it gets.

Finding the right large duffle, outside of the usual traditional styles, is a difficult task. This one by Briefing, made out of durable ballistic nylon, is large enough for a week away and carefully designed, with dividers, multiple pockets and two shoe sections, to make organized packing very easy.
