C.P. Company Nycra Arm Lens MA-1

01

Image

Words

C.P. Company’s contemporary take on the classic MA-1 style is one of the most attractive revisions of this jacket I’ve seen. The slim cut and flap pockets really make the silhouette work, while the lens used as a watch viewer on the sleeve pocket is an interesting application of one of the brand's most iconic recurring details.

The Letters FW14 Lookbook

01

Images

01. Fall Blues.
02. Winter Greys.

Words

The Letters has positioned itself nicely within the new crop of Japanese fashion houses, consistently crafting collections that are both unique and wearable, never veering too far into either Akira or train conductor territory. While all their showings have yielded individual pieces I wouldn't mind owning, the Fall-Winter '14 collection is the first to really grab my attention. The mix of traditional suiting elements with Vans shoes and other more casual attire is nothing new, but their execution of the aesthetic appears both authentic and interesting.

Words

Phil Elverum is the mastermind behind visionary works of music such as The Glow Pt. 2 and more recently the darker, Wind’s Poem. The common thread between Elverum’s music and the photographs featured in his book, Dust, are the recurring themes of shadows, mystery, and nature. Everything he releases through his P.W. Elverum & Sun imprint is lavishly packaged and this 132-page hardcover publication, containing a secondary booklet of 48 more images, is sure to be no different.

Words

Margaret Howell have recently added the latest mainline and MHL campaigns to their website. The former, shot by Glen Luchford on the saltmarshes at Tollesbury in Essex, presents a series of crisp men's and women's looks against a stark British backdrop. The latter has a warmer, more casual feeling, and features Asaf Tolkovsky captured in and around his Bridport-based workshop by Matt Hind. Click on the link below to view both in full.

Go With The Flow – A Group Show at The Hole

Info

312 Bowery
New York, NY 10012
July 10 – August 23, 2014

Words

I have a complicated relationship with art involving spray cans. Like most Americans, it was a major part of my youth, but one gimmicky street artist after another has practically spoiled the technique for me completely. That's why it was such a pleasure making my way through the 'Go With The Flow' group show, which is currently on display at The Hole gallery here in New York, and seeing the atomized paint most often associated with graffiti being used in all manner of beautiful and interesting ways. Even the one traditional 'fill-in' represented, from artist JIMJOE, was composed and executed in a captivating way. Whether you have a similar background to myself, or are just a fan of airbrushed T-shirts, the show is certainly something worth checking out.

Words

New York-based photographer JIMA has been contributing to the Column section on the Nepenthes website since mid-May. Although I'm not able to read his handwritten entries, I've been enjoying the candid imagery that accompanies them, and look forward to seeing more as his Manhattan diary develops.

Oliver Peoples Gregory Peck Frames & Flip-Up Clip-On Lenses

01

Images

01. Raintree Gregory Peck Frames.
02. Rust Flip-Up Clip-On Lenses.

Words

These frames and clip-on tinted lenses from Oliver Peoples are a perfect pairing for those that require eyeglasses, but don’t relish the idea of carrying two cases and constantly switching between options for inside or out. The separate lenses created for the Gregory Peck model – based on Atticus Finch’s frames in To Kill a Mockingbird – are a great looking solution to the conundrum posed by eyeglasses without tint.
