Homme Less

01

Video

01. Directed by Thomas Wirthensohn.

Words

"Set to a jazz score by composers Matt McGuire and Kyle Eastwood (son of Clint), Wirthensohn’s debut feature explores some of the vast distance felt between the homeless and the housed, exposing individuals like [Mark] Reay, who is somewhere between the two. 'We talked about it a lot and he was aware of the possible impact the release of the film would have on his life,' says Wirthensohn regarding Reay’s friends and employers who were perhaps unaware of his situation. 'He assured me that he’d rather share his story and live with the consequences.'"

Online Feature: Modern Design in Britain

01. The Ken Stadling Collection.

Words

To accompany a new exhibition of over 50 items from the Ken Stradling Collection curated by Margaret Howell, we are pleased to present a conversation between the collector and the designer. Shot on location in Bristol, the short film offers a glimpse into Stradling’s modern design archive, and sees the pair discuss not only the origins, but also the depth and breadth of his collection.

Made by regular Inventory contributor Rick Pushinsky, alongside Tim Bowditch, it captures the diversity of Stradling’s surroundings and touches upon the work of Marcel Breuer for Bristol furniture manufacturer Crofton Gane. A major component of the exhibition, these pieces will be complimented by a selection of studio pottery, glassware and everyday household objects. The show opens at Margaret Howell’s Wigmore Street store in London on Thursday October 15th, and runs until Saturday November 15th, 2015.

MHL Heavy Leather Monkey Boots

01. Handmade soft suspension sole.

Words

Margaret Howell does an outstanding job of championing the most storied companies from the United Kingdom and these monkey boots, made by Solovair, are a prime example. The British firm, founded 1881, famously handled the production of Dr. Martens for 35 years and still manufactures footwear in Northamptonshire.

Isamu Noguchi Cyclone Table

01

Image

01. Produced by Knoll.

Words

While there are plenty of dining table options on the market, I find it an especially difficult item to commit to. It can really set the tone for a room, as well as your home overall. Glass, wood and marble all have their merits, but with a variety of bases and legs sometimes offered, the decision-making doesn't always end there. If you don't have any Eiffel chairs in the dining area, then there could be a spot for Noguchi's Cyclone Table. Originally produced in 1957 by Knoll, it has a slightly more casual appearance and serves a very utilitarian function.

02. Cropped Full Zip Shirt.

Words

Très Bien have just released their Fall-Winter '15 collection, picking up where they left off with a pared down design approach, clean tailoring and a mix of slim and oversized silhouettes. The subdued palette feels timely, with a blend of tans and beiges, greys and blacks, and various shades of blue across trousers, jackets and shirting. To round out the offering, the brand have partnered with Common Projects again, producing three special versions of the Achilles.

Nigel Cabourn RAF Jacket

01

Image

01. Part of the Lybro collection.

Words

The market is filled with vintage-inspired pieces that reference US Army and Air Force styles from the past, but Nigel Cabourn’s British roots seem to draw him to reproducing lesser-known militaria from his native country. This bomber length jacket is based on a Royal Air Force design from the 1950s, and its cotton poplin outer and quilted lining combine to create something distinctive that's perfectly suited to the season ahead.

Available from Superdenim
