Hans Ulrich Obrist's follow-up to his hugely successful publication, A Brief History of Curating, is due to be released by JRP Ringier at the end of the month. The 302-page book assembles a collection of interviews with a range of innovative musicians from the 1950s to the 1980s, including, among others, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pauline Oliveros, Tony Conrad, Phill Niblock, Brian Eno, and Arto Lindsay.

Originally designed in 1962 by Dieter Rams, the 621 Side Table hasn't been produced by Vitsœ since the '80s. This spring the English company is re-releasing the injection-molded tables in black and off-white. Available in two sizes, they now feature adjustable feet, adding even more flexibility and keeping them in line with Rams' continued goal to move forwards and improve his designs.

Closing on March 14th, there isn't much time left to check out the impressive collection of Dead Language Press ephemera assembled at Boo-Hooray by Jonas Mekas and Johan Kugelberg. Piero Heliczer, a filmmaker and poet, was one of the great underground artists of New York in the '60s, and his print work includes collaborations with Andy Warhol, Jack Smith, Wallace Berman, William S. Burroughs, and La Monte Young, as well as many other downtown luminaries.

In 1976's The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, director John Cassavetes turns his incomparable independent cinema verite style and improvised performances on the crime genre, resulting in a seedy depiction of 1970s LA. Ben Gazzara's reading of a strip club owner Cosmo Vitelli, whose degenerate gambling ties him to the mob and forces him to do a job that puts him up against tough odds, is nuanced and believable. The 108 minute re-edit moves with a spare economy that is missing from the original, being 30 minutes longer, but the lingering closeups and fantastic camera work are just as marvellous.
