As part of the ongoing FvF x Zeit series, this interview delves into the verdant sanctuary inhabited by Alberto Arango and Ramiro Guerrero in the urban environment of Mexico City. Occupying a 1950s vecindad brimming with plant life, they run a flower shop called Flores Cosmos. The married couple's workshop is right next door to their home, with every square inch of the complex acting as a way for them to exercise their obvious passion for greenery.

In an interesting feature from their archives, Freunde von Freunden delve into the world of Berlin-based sportswear designer, Johanna F. Schneider. Having worked at ACRONYM and created her own NikeLab collection earlier this year, it's clear that she has a strong vision and a great aesthetic. The story offers a look at her home, studio and exercise regime, while Zsuzsanna Toth's interview probes deeper into the designer's process and perspective.

There are plenty of interviews on Freunde von Freunden where metropolises such as New York, Paris or London play a central role, but for me some of the most interesting insights can be found in the places I've never visited. That's certainly the case with this look at Athens, home of Kennedy magazine publisher, photographer and DJ, Chris Kontos, which offers a glimpse into the personality of one of Greece's up-and-coming creatives, alongside some of his usual haunts.

Freunde von Freunden: Sayori and Toyotsugu Wada

Words

The father/daughter duo of architect and surfer, Toyotsugu, and illustrator and music lover, Sayori Wada, were recently the subjects of a Freunde von Freunden interview profiling their incredible light-filled, beach-inspired home and providing insight into their daily lives. The former certainly seems a lot closer to an idealized surf home than the cramped living spaces the Japanese metropolis is sometimes known for, making for a refreshing glimpse of enviable Tokyo living.

Openhouse Magazine Issue 2

01

Image

—01. Published twice a year.

Words

Openhouse is a new magazine rooted in the idea of private spaces functioning in some public way. Whether it be a studio, gallery or showroom, often in a house or apartment – or really any combination thereof. Its second issue features insightful glimpses into the Freunde von Freunden Apartment in Berlin and Philip Johnson’s Glass House in Connecticut, as well as several other cleanly and brightly photographed offices and homes that are utilized for intriguing purposes. With the magazine turning up in more shops, it's a publication to keep an eye out for.
