First shown at Tortona Design Week in Milan earlier this year, the Reflective Research'992 – '015 exhibition opened in New York yesterday. Highlighting Stone Island's use of reflective materials, originally inspired by the study of safety workwear, the exhibition showcases a range of garments and applications used by the Italian brand from 1992 to 2015. The retrospective retraces Stone Island's original research, and examines the evolution and various interpretations of the concept on different textile bases, along with the many experimental processes that have been used over the years. The show runs for the next month, and a special retail presentation will accompany the exhibition, with much of the brand's Fall-Winter '15 collection available for sale. Both should represent opportunities not to be missed, for diehard fans and newcomers alike.

For Spring-Summer '15 Stone Island – frequent innovators in fabric, construction and colour – have introduced a new material to their line, for a number of different styles. Hyper Light is a two layer performance fabric, made using a specially formed nylon weighing only 22 grams per square meter. The fabric is then laminated to form an incredibly lightweight, breathable, water and wind resistant membrane. For fans of outerwear, who think of summer as the enemy, this collection offers an excellent solution. There are a range of brighter colour options that are perfect for spring, but also a number of more subtle options, like the 41621 hooded jacket in black, for those who like to keep things a little more low-pro.

It just got cold. Proper winter cold. It's been a surprisingly mild fall so far, but it seems like we just turned right into the forthcoming polar vortex this week. Weather-related hyperbole and panic aside, it's about this time of year you'll be wanting to make sure you're wrapped up. These two options, from Present's Stone Island offering for the season, provide warmth in abundance. Either by the use of goose down, or a unique three-layer system: "a highly durable performance cotton and a light cotton poplin that has then been bonded to a technical membrane." Long or short, blue or, er, blue – both are great options for the weeks, season and years ahead.

While I already have a closet full of unworn outerwear, purchased on the cheap at the tail end of the winter season, it's hard not to be excited by the new FW14 offering from Stone Island. I never tire of working my way through their fall collections, picking out the wearable from the boundary pushing, and for every piece I want, there's always several others I can't help but admire. A nice light-weight selection of Stone Island spring items have recently appeared at Tres Bien. While New York isn't the ideal place to live if you're after an expensive lightweight jacket to wear for more than two weeks of the year, for those in more reasonable climates there are definitely some nice options available this season from the Italian sportswear brand.
