The Decisive Moment by Henri Cartier-Bresson has long been considered one of those rare, out-of-print photo books that carries a high price tag for original copies. That doesn’t have to be the case any longer. The German publisher, Steidl, has reissued a facsimile version of the 1952 book and hopefully its availability will help to continue eliciting Cartier-Bresson's hegemony and influence over photographers hoping to catch seemingly happenstance moments of beauty or quite possibly introduce his work to a whole new generation.

Don't Hold Me Close is the latest visual offering from Nepenthes, featuring items from the Engineered Garments, FWK and Workaday Spring-Summer '15 collections. Worth a click. Worth a look. I quite like those runners too.

I wasn't supposed to be buying books. I wasn't even supposed to be shopping. But when something catches your eye, in a place that you love and trust, and that thing is only $10, there's really only ever going to be one outcome. Le Fine del Mondo – published by Rainoff books – has been produced by Marco Fusinato, Felicity D. Scott and Mark Wasiuta on the occasion of their contribution to the 14th International Architecture Exhibition at la Biennale di Venezia. The installation they put together, under the same name, includes not only this print document but also a series of "sensor-triggered audio-visual components depicting related records from Turin's Piper Club of 1966 and three Milanese centri sociali: Leoncavallo, Cox18, and Virus." Both book and installation aim to question the use of nightclubs and other social spaces as "sites of political meditation." Which sounds intense, and to be honest is not something I know a lot about. Which is as good a reason as any to purchase a book. They're supposed to be tools for learning and inspiration, after all.

Levi’s Made in the USA Spring-Summer '15

For Spring-Summer '15, Levi’s have released a Made in the USA capsule collection that includes three classic denim items: the Sawtooth Western Shirt, the Trucker Jacket, and Shrink-to-Fit 501s in white, dark and washed indigo varieties. Levi’s have been working with the celebrated denim mill, Cone Mills in Greensboro, North Carolina for 140 years and have continued this legacy of utilizing premium denim produced on vintage looms that features their signature red selvedge. With the Made in the USA collection Levi’s acknowledges their rich brand history and tradition of fine US-made products.

There is not a lack of basketball coverage on the internet, but most of that coverage focuses on statistics, trade rumours, power rankings and gossip. A new London-based online biannual publication called Court sets out to focus on the rich culture that surrounds the sport. Collecting original stories and photography, it shines a light on the people and places that make basketball one of the most diverse and well-loved sports in the world. Founded by Callum Green and Louis Bennett the site’s design is smart, current and digestible. Issue 00 features Samuel Bradley’s photographs of NYC's legendary West 4th Street veterans as well as an interesting look at backboards from all over the world by Christopher Tubbs. Court is worth a read even if you aren’t the biggest basketball fan.

In my continuous hunt for shops specializing in vintage functionalist furniture, I came across this shop based in the Czech Republic that focusses on the 1930s era, and pays particular attention to interwar Czechoslovakian designers, as well as those from the Bauhaus and Scandinavia. While new, reproduction versions are available for many pieces offered, there’s something more desirable, in my opinion, about those that have already had a life of their own and will continue to with the help of vintage shops that specialize in these historical design movements.

Ian Wallace – The Construction Site

The cavernous Catriona Jefferies gallery, tucked away in East Vancouver, is currently hosting Ian Wallace's latest show, The Construction Site. While the subject itself isn't my favourite focal point, it is intriguing to see how Wallace explores 'works in progress' in relation to his own artwork and the constant evolution of the modern landscape. Ian is one of Vancouver's most recognized artists and one of my personal favourites – from any city – so I would recommend stopping by before the end of the month.

Gosha Rubchinskiy's Spring-Summer '15 collection is his best to date, taking strong strides forward off the back of a highly publicized fall season. The silhouettes, graphics and variety of styles all work together nicely, and while still quite youthful, there are plenty of wearable pieces alongside a few more challenging items.
