Nepenthes Hasegawa Journal: EG 19th Century BD Shirt

01

Image

—01. A firm favourite.

Words

As non-Japanese speakers might expect, Google translate makes a total mess of this conversation between Daiki Suzuki and Popeye fashion director, Akio Hasegawa. However, if you're a fan of the Brooks Brothers-inspired, single needle staple – a constant in the Engineered Garments mainline and Workaday collections since both began, and an item that started life as a Nepenthes New York product in the days before EG – it's well worth deciphering.

Baracuta Dark Navy G4

01

Image

—01. Made in England.

Words

The G4 is my favourite style from the iconic English brand, Baracuta. The dark navy outer, straight cut, button cuffs, collar and pockets are all nice details, and I've always liked the tartan interior. As the rain has begun to set in on the West Coast, the water resistant shell ticks another box, making it as useful as it is appealing.

Victim Shawl Collar Melton Vest

01

Images

—01. Made from 90% Melton Wool.
—02. Styled alongside other Victim items.

Words

A good winter vest is essential for those frequent subzero days on the East Coast, and indeed elsewhere. This piece looks a bit like Victim's head designer sliced the vest out of the middle of a past season's varsity jacket, but I don't mind that one bit.

The blog for the Japanese vintage shop, Cosmic Jumper, is one of the best resources for an eclectic mix of mid-century American casual and military wear. It serves as a never-ending roll of unique and desirable items, and is a great inspiration for those vintage items you didn't even know you wanted.

Crescent Down Works Diagonal Quilted Jacket

01

Image

—01. 100% goose down fill.

Words

One of the Seattle-based down wear manufacturer's more unique models, and not typically seen in most shops, the Diagonally Quilted Jacket is a great bomber length option that has all of the insulating properties of a down parka, but in a fit more reminiscent of a heavy cardigan. It can be worn both as a liner, under a coat, or as a lightweight, warm outer layer.

Originally launched in 2009, the Pop Up Flea was conceived by Randy Goldberg and Michael Williams as a way to bring together "an ever-changing collection of new and vintage menswear goods."
