The Strike Gold Heavy Loopwheeled Sweatshirt

The vat dyed indigo colouring of this heavyweight sweatshirt means that while it looks pretty incredible now, it will only get better with age as it loses some of that rich blue hue. The tighter weave of the loopwheeled fabric is durable and tough, but sacrifices no softness with a triple-brushed interior. In short, this classic Japanese-made crew neck, with deep cuffs and waistband, couldn’t look any better, especially when paired with well-worn denim.

I searched everywhere for this after seeing it peak out from behind a jacket in an editorial a few months ago. It is one of those rare shirts that utilizes traditional patchwork without conjuring visions of Arnold Palmers and croquet games. I suppose that is due to the use of paisley as opposed to something like seersucker, but whatever the reason, it looks very good to me.

Having trained as a portraitist at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, the primary focus of Leslie Williamson's more recent work has been the world of interiors. Eschewing the glossy format often associated with this subject, she captures people's homes and the work of iconic designers and architects in a far more artistic way. Her first book published by Rizzoli, Handcrafted Modern, has done exceptionally well, and her second from the same publisher, Modern Originals, was released in April of this year.

It might not be in the same realm as a hand-painted vintage original, but this Aloha shirt by Japanese brand Bru Na Boinne is the best contemporary version I've seen in a long time. The lightweight fabric, the subtle combination of greys and pinks, and the simplicity of the asymmetrical flamingo pattern – with what looks like a stingray and a diver thrown in for good measure – add up to something very special. I was sold as soon as I laid eyes on it.
