Sassafras Fall Leaf Shorts

—01. Back Satin.

Words

One of Sassafras' best known bottoms comes in a shortened version this summer. They might actually beat out the Engineered Garments ripstop Fatigue shorts in my books, due to the nice cut of Sassafras bottoms and the back satin cotton in the olive green.

Sassafras Seed Jacket

Words

It's getting close to full blown gardening season so it's good timing for Sassafras spring items to start hitting shops. I don't usually like this sort of cardigan style jacket with no collar, but the collar, buttons and back detail make it work for me. The pockets are useful even if you're not packing a full load of bulbs, the color is perfect and Sassafras always use interesting fabrics.

Sassafras Pruner Pants

Words

Well, good luck finding these. It won't be easy, but I loved them so I had to blog them anyways. Sassafras have put out a new pant this fall called the 'pruner pant', and it looks great. A mix of cotton and nylon, the reinforced thighs feature a tonal green fabric and a washed green cotton for the rest of the pant. The fit looks great, the greens look amazing and they look unique, yet subtle enough for easy wear - a tough thing to accomplish in today's market.

Sassafras Corduroy Fall Leaf Pants

01

Images

—01. Brown corduroy, perfect for fall.
—02. Exterior pocket bag, great for loosing keys.

Words

One of my favorite items from Sassafras gets a nice makeover this fall with the season-appropriate fabric, corduroy. The brown looks classic and goes nicely with the brand's subtle exterior branding. The pants have a really nice cut to them and look well-made. They are fairly true to size and Starling allows overseas orders as well.

Sassafras Pocket Vest

01

Images

—01. Worn with nice casual pieces.
—02. Washed out cotton.

Words

Some new Sassafras items have been arriving in select Japanese retailers recently and as usual a lot of them look great. This multi-pocket vest is a nice casual piece that could be worn under a jacket or over the top of a heavy shirt or sweatshirt. The washed out tone looks great and the array of pockets make it ideal for packing up your daily tools.

Sassafras Wool Ball Cap

01

Images

—01. 100% Wool.
—02. Made in the USA.

Words

Sassafras haven't shown us too many collaborations or accessories but this wool ball cap is great. The almost ratty looking lettering offers a nice reference to the Giants while also representing the brand's initials. It's made by Cooperstown Ball Cap Co. in the USA and is a nice alternative to something by Ebbets Field Flannels.

Fall Look 01

01

Images

—01. CPO shirt, 19th Century shirt and pocket square by Engineered Garments, pants by Sassafras, knit cap and t-shirt by The Real McCoy's, socks by J.Press, boots by Red Wing.

Words

Normally I don't get too excited about fall in July, but with the knowledge of the items on their way to Vancouver I can't help it. There are a couple of things I miss in the summer - my Red Wings and knit caps in particular - but there are also a couple of other items I am looking forward to picking up this fall, especially the brushed flannel CPO shirt by Engineered Garments. As you can see here, it's one of those simple pieces that works well with everything. The tones in this outfit are easy and I think this is one of those blog posts where I will catch myself looking exactly like it when the weather cools down enough.

Sassafras Hickory Stripe Pants

Words

Due to the fitting issues that some of us have with Japanese brands, it seems more and more often that the pants are the best items to embrace and wear with ease. Sassafras is one of those brands and these pants are one of my favorites. They might not work for everyday wear, but the nice stripes, detailing and overall finish make for a well rounded, good looking item that's well worth having around.
