While it's been the plain navy, grey and black McCoy's sweatshirts that have been very popular lately, this slightly heavier and slightly tougher 12 oz. loopwheeled sweat is one of our favorites in the store right now. Orcival is one of those brands that only seem to be available in Japan, yet the items are still made in their place of origin: France. The classic Breton tops aren't anything particularly new, but the fit and fabrics make them slightly more appealing than Saint James. Add in some beautiful product shots and I want to be wearing them everyday, along with some sunny weather.

The photographs were originally shot for the CONTACT photography festival in Toronto but our own Chris Allen decided to take the opportunity to print a selection of the images in the first publication from Ikigai Editions. The news print release is 36 pages long, has 3 different cover options and was printed in Canada. The photographs were shot by Brendan Meadows, Simon Willms and George Moreira, and the styling and vintage archive came courtesy of Matt Robinson, owner of Klaxon Howl in Toronto. To accompany the project, Darrin Klimek also produced a short film offering a behind-the-scenes look at casual life behind the front lines of battle. Overall, the project was beautifully executed from the photos to the film to the first offering from Ikigai Editions, and we are very pleased to be offering the publication in our shop.

The spring collection from Sassafras continues to impress and it might even be one of my favorite brands this season. The quality, fabrics, branding and design all fit so perfectly together. The gardening reference again comes into play with the recent release at Utility Coop of the 'Bulb Seed' shirt. With handy side pockets and a nice plaid or stripe to choose from, Sassafras produce another winner.

There seem to be enough weddings and parties going on lately to warrant the purchase of a couple lightweight summer ties. I find the fall season is much nicer with tweeds and wools when it comes to neckwear, but this spring produced a few that actually make me want to dress up more often. Gitman Vintage, Engineered Garments and Alexander Olch are the usual suspects for their shape, fabric choice and colour palettes.

After receiving the SS10 Preivew lookbook by 45rpm in the mail, I was compelled to check out their modest online offering again. There was a shirt a couple seasons ago that I missed out on that was a patchwork red gingham, and I still think about it to this day - now I am thinking about this one. The cotton looks so soft, so comfortable and so perfect for summer. The colour, the pattern and styling are all just right, as usual from 45rpm.
