Huge No.086 / Nanamica Editorial

01

Images

—01 & 02. Portraits from One Ocean, All Lands.

Words

The November issue of Huge features a short, but striking Nanamica editorial - One Ocean, All Lands - styled by Lambda Takahashi and photographed by Taro Mizutani who shot the Supreme story for Issue 04 of Inventory. It's not easy to put together something like this, but it couldn't have turned out any better, and is one of the strong points in another very good issue.

The Coast of Utopia

01

Info

—01. Hand modified housing on the Coast of Uruguay.

Words

"Cabo Polonio, a remote beach village in southeastern Uruguay, sits on a green peninsula between the Atlantic and a desert landscape of shifting sand dunes. Strewn across the grassy promontory are a single lighthouse and a few hundred whimsical dwellings. Rasta-colored flags serve as wind vanes, tinted glass bottles are embedded in walls, and exteriors are painted with pictures of suns, cow spots, rainbows and a Klimt-like rendering of a woman. One stands out as particularly fanciful. It’s more sculpture than cabin, constructed from panes of glass, wood, plastic, bamboo blinds and green plexiglass, with tall, lush plants growing out of the floor."

Denali's South Face by Riccardo Cassin

Words

These photographs, by way of An Ambitious Project Collapsing, were taken on Riccardo Cassin's first assent of Mount McKinley's South Face in 1961. This photo album was given to the American Alpine Club by Bradford Washburn in 2005, after Washburn himself had received it from Mr Cassin. The South Face, which is now known as Cassin Ridge in Riccardo's honor, is the best known technical route on the mountain, and the climb was a major landmark in Alaskan mountaineering. Cassin himself was a leading Italian mountaineer, who's prominence in the inter-war period led to over 2,500 assents, over 100 of which were firsts.

Ten C at The Bureau

Images

—02. Dark Grey Winter Liner.

Words

Ever since the rumours began that Paul Harvey had returned from his self-imposed designing exile, I was eager to discover more about the new line he would be launching with fellow Stone Island and CP Company alumni Alessandro Pungetti. Once the images appeared online last fall, I was instantly impressed with the refined back-to-basics approach the pair had taken to their outerwear brand. Re-imagining classics that have been altered for improved fit and constructions, Ten C also employs the use of custom fabrics produced in Japan and finished in Italy on all of their products. The removable liner, which is available for purchase and addition to any of this season's pieces, is a nice touch, and while the price may well be prohibitive, the craftsmanship, quality and attention to detail can be in no doubt. The Ten C website is also worth a few minutes of your time; here you can listen to the designer Paul Harvey discuss each and every piece in the brand's minimal 7 piece, 4 colour, 1 fabric collection.

Following on from the editorial they produced for our fourth issue, Neil Bedford and Craig Ford have just released this set of portraits promoting the Fall-Winter '11 Mr. Bathing Ape collection. The pair continue to take an interesting approach towards the brand's image and I'm always impressed with the results.

Mark McNairy Ridgeway Long Wing

01

Info

—01. Ridgeway sole.

Words

Mark's footwear collection is known and loved by all, pretty much, and still hasn't managed to get boring. With a nice balance of classic, playful and tasteful, his collection offers buyers a great variety, as well as the opportunity to create custom make ups. I am eagerly awaiting a personal order that uses this upper and sole, but in the meantime I am happy to admire the version made for Fennica in Japan.

Fall Layers

Words

There are a few Japanese webshops out there that really do a great job presenting new product - Second Stage is one of them. This fall they were able to inject a fair bit of color into the fall season, with some nice styling, comfy layering and good use of the Engineered Garments fatigue pants. Although the cords might be tough to pull off in real life, these images definitely make them a little bit appealing.
