Margaret Howell's spring collection includes some beautiful knitwear and shirting, as usual, but the MHL accessories are often the unsung hero. The packable rain hat this spring is made from 80% cotton and 20% PU, making it lightweight, functional and it also happens to stow away rather easily when needed.

The fine folks over at The Bureau have just received a small reorder of Ten C product, and the standout for me is this Olive Field Jacket. The design is extremely close to the original 1960's US Army version, and the improvements are subtle but welcome: a breathable but water resistant custom made fabric, and a few small tweaks in fit and detail. If you don't already have something like this in your wardrobe, this might be the only garment of its kind that you'll ever need.

Marcelo Gomes recently shot a story on Daiki Suzuki and a beautiful Engineered Garments editorial for the new issue of Brutus magazine. Above and below are a selection of featured imagery and outtakes from the shoot in New York, and you can see more from Marcelo in the forthcoming issue of Inventory, where he worked with Simon and I on the editorial All the Tea I've Taken.

There aren't a lot of good mid-century modern online shops. I've been following Just in Modern's blogspot for awhile and when I heard he was launching a new site, I was both excited and scared. Justin's selection of Herman Miller pieces alone is worth a look, but there are some great items by Knoll along with a nice variety of lighting, clocks and objects. While you won't find the deal of the mid-century, you will find fair prices for excellent pieces.

When it comes to a combination of protection, functionality and weight it's tough to beat Arc'teryx. This spring the focus shifted to packable, lightweight jackets, and the Isogon is a highlight of the collection. Both water and wind resistant, this hooded jacket easily packs up, comes in three interesting colors and lands at a relatively good price point.

—02. Aaron Rose.
The Heavy Mental recently published an excellent interview with the ever interesting Aaron Rose, concerning his essay 'The Death of Subculture' from the book Collage Culture. The book was conceived as a critique and study on the 21st century's obsession with reworking, often without credit, works of art and design from the past, while Rose's essay itself acts as a call of arms for young and contemporary designers to adopt a philosophy of creative innovation. The book, designed by Brian Roettinger, also features an essay entitled 'Living in the Mess' by Mandy Khan, which explores the notion that the abundance of reference that surrounds us might actually have a negative effect on the way we feel, and the ways in which we create.
