Woolrich Woolen Mills Fall-Winter '12

01

Info

—01. FW12 Look book.

Words

This week Mark McNairy launched his Fall-Winter 2012 collection at Pitti Uomo and at the WP Lavori showroom in Milan. The feedback has been deservedly positive so far. The mix of wool, corduroy and synthetic materials are well balanced, along with a nice color palette. Not short on Mark's playful aesthetic, it also features nice use of technical fabrics and very wearable basics.

Woolrich Woolen Mills College Scarves

01

Info

—01. Available in two colors.

Words

One of the best items in the fall-winter Woolrich Woolen Mils collection. It's simple and effective, and basically a necessity in the cold winter weather. Both color options are classic enough and provide manageable dose of plaid.

Woolrich Woolen Mills Fall/Winter 2011

Words

Featured is a nice selection of Fall/Winter looks from Woolrich Woolen Mills. I think there is some nice pieces this season that I can see incorporating into certain outfits but obviously it feels a little bit different now that Mark McNairy has taken up the design reigns. I'm pretty simple when it comes to choosing what to wear and certain pieces like the expo chino, mayo pant and sweater seem like easy, wearable additions.

Woolrich Woolen Mills Watch Cap

01

Images

—01. Navy.
—02. Olive.

Words

Most seasons I tend to pick up something small from a collection that perhaps appeals, but maybe doesn't bowl me over directly enough to make a substantial purchase. I have a few things here and there that fall into this category, and this Watch Cap from Mark McNairy's Fall '11 Woolrich Woolen Mills collection would seem an ideal candidate for this season's contender. The large text placement won't be for everyone, but the hat is relatively affordable, easily wearable, and available in two classic colours.

Woolrich Woolen Mills Montegomery Coat

Words

While I've always liked duffle coats, I have never owned or worn one myself. Maybe it's because the length doesn't seem to work for me. Whatever the case, the use of navy and burgundy are a nice combination and no details seem to be overdone. Of course the stripes aren't for everyone, but they offer a nice alternative to the classic navy.

Woolrich Woolen Mills for Inventory

01

Info

—01. Woody Shirt & Cruiser Shirt.

Words

This project was inspired by a feature about Woolrich Woolen Mills we did for the fourth issue of the magazine. The story focused on Daiki Suzuki, the brand's designer for the first ten seasons, and Mark McNairy, his successor. Following on from that we decided to make two special Woolrich Woolen Mills pieces - the Cruiser Shirt from Daiki's time at the helm, and the Woody Shirt from Mark's first collection. Produced in two weights of navy blue wool, and offset by mother of pearl buttons, the shirts offer a classic aesthetic and showcase what Woolrich is best known for: beautifully made American wool.

Words

The first deliveries from Mark McNairy's first Woolen Mills collection are starting to arrive and I feel like people might be pleasantly surprised. There hasn't been the most positive response by the blog commenting community, but there are some very clean, nicely made, nice fitting pieces coming out. Oi Polloi have a handful of new pieces in stock now.

Preview: Woolrich Woolen Mills 'Four Hands' Parka

01

Images

—01. Leather placket & US clip fasteners.
—02. Thigh length, down parka.

Words

The clever name of the parka refers to the number of hands that worked on the design for this piece. As a welcoming in and a sending off, Mark McNairy and Daiki Suzuki worked together on this epic Woolen Mills piece to create a rather subtle and and refrained parka. Many designers take things over the top on their own, so I think the simplicity of the parka shows a certain respect for the Woolrich brand, as well as the good taste of the designers involved.
