Gee Vaucher – Crass Art and Other Pre Post-Modernist Monsters

01

Image

01. Published by AK Press, 1999.

Words

Whether or not you’re a fan of Crass, their album artwork and accompanying imagery is incredible; sublimely dark, thoughtful, and often uncomfortable. Frequently attacking humanity's cultural reliance on war, religion and consumerism, London-born artist Gee Vaucher is responsible for the group's idiosyncratic visuals. This rare first edition collects paintings, illustrations and collages from 1961 to 1997, as well as a selection of her work for the politically charged UK punk band.

Words

I feel as though I’ve seen an increasing amount of Carl Auböck pieces more widely available as recognition for the Austrian designer and company continues to grow, but I’d yet to see a collaboration. At the end of 2014, the Portland-based shop Table of Contents released five Auböck paperweights made from brass, based on the classic leather-wrapped stone which dates back to the 19th century.
