The Japanese brand Kato' always does a great job of taking unassuming items and imbuing them with unique and useful design tweaks. The spread collar on this work shirt gives it a distinctive feel, while the large chest pockets would make it a lot easier to carry items I constantly have trouble fitting into conventional versions, like my near tablet-sized phone.

I’m certainly no stranger to vintage-inspired baseball caps and have come to really appreciate the traditional use of a leather sweatband. This is most commonly found on fitted options made from wool, but it's great to see the same touch applied to a cotton hat so perfectly suited to summer.

While vintage versions of 3/4 sleeve football shirts are abundant, they generally aren’t this clean. It's a style of sports shirt that's been rolling around in my mind for a while now, but many feature some unappealing print or place name that makes it hard to pull the trigger. This option, however, available in three classic colours with a ribbed stripe detail on both sleeves, is one the best I’ve come across so far.

Finding a good pair of striped athletic socks can be a challenging task, but they really are one of the better options for wearing with light coloured sneakers. These Japanese-made thick pile versions have to be one of the premier choices, produced in great colour combinations with a grey heel and toe.

Of all the items I've seen riding the wave of modified army apparel, these pants are probably my favourite because the fit has not been modified by multiple reconfigured panels. Reserved for the cargo pockets, the primitive embroidery adds a welcome punch of colour to the cotton OD fabric, but otherwise these are a classic pair of deadstock military cargos and nothing more.

Maillot Wool Sweat Trainier

Wool blends are an attractive idea as a material for sweatshirts and other long-sleeved sportswear. This variation from the Japanese brand Maillot has a wider boat neck and boxy, loose fit, which affords the pullover a slightly different but still simple, casual fit.

These 'triple black' 990s might not win everyone over, but I'm on board with their monochromatic colour scheme. While light grey is certainly the obvious choice for this desirable US-made style, this version would make for a great alternative.
