The one-year-old Vancouver-based online record shop and recent imprint, Pacific Rhythm, is opening a physical location, shared with the Chinatown purveyors of all things corner store and more, Snack City. The launch party is set to be held on February 8th; drinks will be served and records will be spun by Jack J and Liam Butler of Pender Street Steppers, as well as Neo Image, and Hashman Deejay.

Signed to West Coast record label Mood Hut, Pender Street Steppers have been gaining momentum with their mellow, hazy house sound. Liam Butler and Jack J played three dates in Australia earlier this month, followed by a show in San Francisco, and will be performing in the UK and Europe between March and July. The duo's debut, Life in the Zone – issued as a mixed cassette in 2013 – is probably my favourite P.S.S. release, but individual tracks from the album put out on vinyl by Mood Hut and Washington DC’s PPU are a good place to start.

Since a large contingent of my colleagues reside in Vancouver, I figured it was a good time to highlight a very promising young crew growing out of the same waterlogged roots they call home. The various producers all release under the banner of Mood Hut, a new label pushing their unique sound of dubby, aquatic, left field house music. Their newest record is by Pender Street Steppers, possibly the most UK-influenced release of their catalogue. Also make sure to check out Ttam Renat's wonky workouts, as well as Cloudface's molasses-soaked Chicago cuts.
