Online Feature: Arc'teryx Veilance SS15

Many people associate technical fabrics with specific forms of exercise or poor weather conditions, but functional clothing is equally relevant to the requirements of daily life as temperatures rise, particularly in a city environment. When it comes to the latter and the countless considerations involved, few brands succeed in the way that Arc'teryx Veilance does. This season's collection, captured on the streets of New York for our latest online feature, combines innovation and wearability with a well-balanced colour palette.

The New York store's 4th floor event space includes three different product offerings from the iconic brand, and we have the first look at Kiko Kostadinov's limited edition contribution. The collection's lookbook, featuring Tom Fletcher wearing a selection of the special one of a kind pieces, was photographed by Dexter Lander and styled by our Fashion Director, Stephen Mann.

Words

One of the better aspects of working for Inventory, and here I don't mean to brag, is that it enables us to collaborate not only with our friends, but also with people we greatly admire. Being able to combine both, or when one becomes the other, offers the ultimate feeling of fulfillment, and is something I know each of us cherish. Issue 11 of the magazine was no exception, and being able to visit and interview the Los Angeles-based artist Oliver Payne was certainly one of my own personal highlights. Having put up with an afternoon of questions, photographs and arcade game defeats, I was thrilled when Oliver also agreed to produce a short film for the launch of our latest issue.

Inventory Eleven was first shown back in November, as part of an exhibition, and during a night of celebration, at the Paris bookstore 0fr. Today we're proud to finally share Oliver's film online for the very first time, accompanied by a short Q&A with the artist about the concept behind it, and the themes contained within.

Ahead of an editorial to be featured in the forthcoming issue of Inventory, longtime friend and contributor Marcelo Gomes presents an architectural exploration of the famed Hotel Okura. Originally opened in 1962 and built under the design direction of Yoshiro Taniguchi, Hideo Kosaka, Shiko Munakata and Kenkichi Tomimoto, the luxury modernist hotel has hosted every US president since Richard Nixon. It was announced recently that the main building would be demolished in September 2015, to make way for a new glass tower design. The outcry following this decision has been substantial, and a petition to save the original building can be signed by following the link below.

While the summer season begins to draw to a close from a retail perspective, it has only just begun in terms of warm weather and the clothing needed to go with it. And with the heat comes the need for sartorial inspiration. With that in mind we're pleased to present a new online feature – an editorial featuring the Spring-Summer '14 White Mountaineering collection, shot by Jimi Franklin and styled by Masako Ogura.

This spring Beams opened the doors of their Harajuku store to Pilgrim Surf + Supply, and the two companies worked together to develop a selection of special products for the shop-in-shop in Tokyo. Head Beams buyer Alex Nakada travelled to New York last summer to discuss various collaborations for the project with Pilgrim's owner, Chris Gentile, and Battenwear designer, Shinya Hasegawa. This process was captured by photographer Dave Potes for our latest online feature.

In the wake of all the exposure, after the dust has settled on previous collections, and as we await next season's product at the end of another year, it's the ideal time to consider Gyakusou in a broader context. Alongside some of the iconic imagery created around the brand, David Hellqvist examines a collaboration between Nike and Undercover that has been successful in design, performance, and sales terms ever since its arrival in 2010.
