Pile is everywhere among the Japanese brands this season. From hoodies to track pants to chukkas, it seems nothing has escapred the fabric. While the Name. brand gets an honourable mention for the best use of pile, my favourite piece actually comes from Mountain Research. This cardigan is the perfect style and cut to offset the traditionally frumpy fabric.

First of all, I'm sure we know this is absolute overkill for your average city dweller, but that's kind of why it's amazing. Mountain Research does an incredible job of creating items plucked from the perfect idealized camping trip and this backpack is no exception; weatherproof and made from nylon, with a leather bottom and shoulder straps. While well out of reach for most of us and not even generally practical, it certainly is a wonder to behold.

When the mercury drops below freezing, a pair of long socks is a good insurance policy against the cold. They can be pulled up high, when worn with a pair of boots, and will keep in that much more heat. Long button up shirts for men have become more common in the past few seasons, and its a look that I quite like. I haven't seen too many long t-shirts however, and while I'm not certain if they are as appealing, they do offer an interesting layering option.

Mountain Research has really been intriguing me from what I see online with their last few collections. While the brand does seem quite modern and technical, their pieces almost always seem heritage inspired. A real standout for me are these military inspired pants made of cotton duck with a removable belt. The front patch pockets and side slit pockets are a unique and interesting detail. Plus, both colours offered, brown and olive green, are very appealing. Most of the Mountain Research line is nearly impossible to get in North America, so for now I'll have to dream.

The latest version of the Mountain Hat comes in a couple of new colours which are perfect for the fall. The interior padding is made from a quick drying material, offering both comfort and functionality.
