Today, Donald Judd's birthday and exactly three years since the painstaking restoration process began, bookings are being taken for 101 Spring Street ahead of its opening on June 18th. In what has been the main objective and biggest challenge from the outset, visitors will be able to experience the artist's family home and studio from 1968 until his death in 1994 as it was originally installed. Each of the five floors is sparsely decorated with "pieces from his collection of over 500 objects, including original sculpture, paintings, drawings, prints, and furniture designed by Judd and others." Like many, I've been observing this process on visits to New York, and more closely via the Judd Foundation's amazing Restoration Image Newsreel, for some time. Being able to see inside, in person, is something I'm very much looking forward to.
