The David Kordansky Gallery in Los Angeles opened a show of new work by Jonas Wood at the end of March. The artist often begins his work by collaging photographs he has taken, and these collages of composite scenes are then used as either standalone pieces, or as studies and drawings for future paintings. These paintings sometimes appear again in Wood's later work, hanging on the walls of the galleries or studios he is depicting. This body of work represents "a visual analogue to the multiple, unpredictable, and constantly evolving ways in which memory reconstructs the past. Accordingly, Wood frequently portrays his subjects by way of pre-existing representations like baseball cards, posters, and images from television broadcasts." The show hangs until May, should you live in the city, or else plan to be visiting LA over the next few weeks.
