Words

In the last year we've worked on a handful of collaborations that have all been interesting and exciting, but one of the companies we've really come to love and respect is Yuketen. It's been great to work with Yuki and Ryan, and also get to know them on a personal level, so creating a custom shoe together has been an incredible honor. Yuketen don't sell their products to many retailers, let alone do collaborative projects, so it's a very special one for us. Playing with one of their classic models, the Maine Guide Boot, we decided to bring back its unknown and basically unseen shorter brother, the Maine Guide Shoe. Using a waterproof leather, adjusting the height and taking off the heel loop, we came up with our perfect fall moccasin. They're sturdy and tough, but the leather is soft and functional. They are one of the best shoes I've ever owned and I couldn't be more excited about how they came out - thanks to Yuki, Ryan and the whole Meg Company team.

Wow, I think these look so good. The highlight, to me, is the height of the shoes which make for a very interesting feel to it. It's somewhat in between a normal shoe and an ankle boot. It makes you think, "I've seen something like this before but not quiet" and you can't really put a finger on it, which I think makes for a perfect shoe. Love it. Very very nice.

great outcome

Best Yuketen shoes I've seen, like that they're waterproof and don't have the fragile crepe sole. How much will these go for?

size 13?!
any chance? maybe a special order?

Great job on this one, guys. Didn't even know the guide shoe existed. Love this take on it, especially since you get the same great detail on the boot.

How's the sizing on these compared to Quoddy? The Maliseet Oxford you guys ran from last year, in particular...

How is the size compared to the ranger mocs?
September 20, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDavid
The sizing is consistent with both Yuketen and Quoddy across the board from my experience. They did turn out amazing and they feel great with no socks, and with socks. People have begun pre-ordering them so I would recommend doing that if you really want a pair. They are $480.

Thanks for all of the nice comments. They are definitely one of my favorite products to come out, and to work with Yuketen is really special.

I kind of wish I didn't already have the ranger mocs, they feel to similar for me to purchase a pair..or..

@ nick
The main guide shoe didn't exist. That's what this collaboration has created. And a great collaboration is it.

Smiling inside and out. Well done!

Hmf, they look even better when I see all the images from the stockroom. But too late, sold out in my size. Hopefully one day though..

@ Ammar

I'm afraid that is incorrect. The Maine guide shoe was shown at trade shows in June and it is available to all Yuketen accounts next season. It comes with a pull at the back, i doubt it will be waterproof.
September 21, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJohn S
At John S: well actually he's right. They did not exist. And currently do not exist other than this collaboration. They will however, as you pointed out, exist next season. Only with a pull tab and a few other differences maybe.

I guess Yuketen realized they'd be on to a good thing making these a staple.

Which is good for those of us who missed out in getting a pair during the 12 hours they were available in any normal sizes!

so good gents! respect

Do please clear this up for me. Was this shoe made specially by Yuketen at the request of Inventory like the Update entry suggests or was it a shoe already in the pipeline for S/S11 that Inventory seen and asked to have a few changes made.
September 21, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterM.A.
^The shoe had actually been sampled for the SS10 season they weren't really shown, they still had a couple kinks and nobody had bought them. We started working with it then. The height was adjusted, the loop was taking off, we used the waterproof leather and a couple other small specific things. Then Yuketen brought it back in some different leathers without some of our changes for SS11.

there are almost as many comments as the amount of shoes made. correlation?
September 21, 2010 | Unregistered Commentern.s.
Too much stictching perhaps, the ranger moc has a cleaner and better design, but good that it's waterproof and quite high

I demand you make some more of these.
