The Canadian-born visual artist Brent Wadden is equal parts painter, weaver, and craftsman – relying on hand loomed, painted tapestries to convey his distinctive sensibility and recognizable deployment of geometric forms. Having shown at such iconic institutions as Peres Projects in Berlin and Saatchi Gallery in London, this marks his first exhibition at Mitchell-Innes & Nash since joining the gallery in 2014. On view until the end of the month, Wadden’s large-scale wool, cotton, and acrylic paint works aren’t done justice in photos, so don’t miss it if you're in New York.

It's a big weekend in New York for art and design. Frieze, the influential art fair, takes place on Randall's Island, while across town, not far from the banks of the Hudson River, the Jacob Javits Center hosts the ICFF – one of New York's premier contemporary design shows. Among the many exhibitors and booths, you can find new work by longtime friend of Inventory, and Issue 10 cover subject, Dean Edmonds. The London-based designer will be showcasing a new lamp design, in two colourways, as part of a group of offerings from Atelier de Troupe – a lighting and furniture studio based in Los Angeles. Undercover’s Television pieces for Spring-Summer '15 created quite a stir when the collection was first shown last year, causing plenty of people to raise all kinds of grievances. Most seemed to call-out the large graphic treatments and liberal use of photos from their two album covers. I myself am a huge fan of Tom Verlaine and his fellow band members and feel they are far and away the strongest group associated with the late '70s NYC punk venue CBGB. For me, this T-shirt, while very pricey, uses all the right Marquee Moon references, making it just about the best one you can find for a band with an absolutely sterling output.

The Japanese brand Sasquatchfabrix. does a remarkable job of taking classic references and warping them to fit their avant-garde aesthetic. Their products add a dash of individualism to any outfit, and these chunky acrylic sunglasses certainly stand out from the numerous, more diminutive versions available from nearly every eyewear company.

If Hiroyuki Usui’s latest record, Sings The Blues, shares any similarities with Holy Letters, his previous album of spare, haunting blues experimentalism released under the moniker L, it is destined to be one of my new favourites. It was put out by the genre-defining label VHF early last year, and it is recommended to fans of Loren Connors, Jandek and Six Organs of Admittance. What I have heard in my minimal sampling so far is very promising, but ultimately I am saving myself for one revelatory, all-encompassing first listen.

I Cannot Not Communicate is a new piece of work by Martin John Callanan that will be on show at Vitsoe New York from tomorrow. It comprises the top 100 books suggested to the Berlin and UK-based artist by Amazon since the online retailer introduced its recommendation algorithm over 15 years ago. The publications will be displayed on Vitsoe's iconic shelving, and Callanan has produced a Risographed pamphlet to accompany the installation, which includes a text by Marialaura Ghidini.
