This 1976 edition of the once popular, and perhaps subculture defining, publication has frequently appeared in front of me at various times, and in various places, throughout the last year. Most notably during our trip to Tokyo at the tail end of 2011, where if it wasn't being spotted in the locked cabinet of a bookstore, it was on the desk during a meeting, or in someones personal collection at home; being used for both inspiration and reference. During the course of my limited viewings, it's been easy to see why the magazine has been so highly sought after, and so extremely influential to those that own it. It would also appear that the near-constant haunting of it's influence will no longer be limited to the real world either: this week it was featured on Swimsuit Department, as part of their 'Lucky Wednesday' discovery.

There has always been something about N-1 jackets that have always struck a strong cord with me, the functionality, the silhouette, and the heritage are all aspects of this Buzz Rickson coat that make it work for me. Visually, the durability looks like it could handle itself through various weather elements and outdoor conditions. The khaki colour and darker toned lining work nicely together, the details that I appreciate haven't been overlooked and that's to be expected coming from Buzz Rickson.

Arc'teryx Birds Nest Project

It's well know that Vancouver has a large population of people living on the streets. Many people ignore the fact, but for three years Arc'teryx have been taking action by donating their materials and time to help those survive the rugged conditions of the west coast. Their design team has come up with a simple product, easy to make, using Gore-Tex to create a cape-like jacket. The company donates the materials and their employees donate their time to produce this functional, and rather good looking piece. Last year Arc'teryx provided over 700 Gore-Tex capes to people in need throughout Vancouver.

Among the first brands to deliver their spring goods this season is Nanamica. A few retailers, including Nitty Gritty, have received another solid selection of outerwear and bags. The brand continues to meld classic silhouettes with updated technology and functionality in a rather pleasant way.

I'll give praise to a good vest now and then, I wear them frequently so it's only natural I share them with you. Beams collaborates with Remi Relief again to bring us this meticulously detailed piece. I love the button snaps on the side to adjust the width and the referenced US nickel buttons. The darker tanned leather upper complements the indigo dyed body very nicely. Beams also threw in hula girl and ukulele motifs for the lining which is a nice touch, maybe not exactly what I look for, but it doesn't sway my opinion about this vest overall.
