Sasquatchfabrix. High-Cut Slip-On

01

Images

01. Cotton canvas upper.
02. Elastic forefoot band.

Words

These intriguing monochromatic slip-ons by Sasquatchfabrix. feel like prison issue Chuck Taylors, and that juxtaposition is precisely their charm. The laceless high-tops feature an elastic strap to hold your foot securely in place, giving an otherwise simple silhouette a distinctive look of its own.

Richard Tuttle Editions at Gemini G.E.L.

Info

Looking for Love I, 2015
Three colour aquatint
55.88 x 76.52 cm
Edition of 28

Words

I couldn’t tell you why, but I’ve always gravitated towards artists admired by their peers; those applicable to the artist’s artist descriptor and that whole idea. Richard Tuttle is one such example, and having compulsively read about his output, I’ve been spending a lot of time on the Gemini G.E.L. website, lost in the sublimely beautiful editions he's created for the influential Los Angeles printmaking shop. I never imagined owning a piece of his work would be a possibility, but the site offers a relatively affordable way to acquire a signed creation by Tuttle, and many other certifiable masters – in the grand scheme of art collecting that is.

Each season sees more and more companies producing plain sweatshirts as part of their offering, but anyone familiar with The Real McCoy’s will know that their versions are always tough to beat. This two tone option from the brand's Fall-Winter '15 collection is a prime example, made in Japan from loopwheeled cotton, it offers something a little more unique, combining bright red trims with a heather grey body.

01. LOITER: For June.

Words

As part of a subtle redesign, New York-based photographer JIMA has just updated his website with a selection of new content. Featuring recent work for Arc'teryx Veilance, Engineered Garments, Popeye, Ginza and our own magazine, alongside imagery from the popular LOITER series, his movie set photography and plenty of archive material, it is well worth exploring. Be sure to have a look at the film section as well, where 4 Parts Dream is a particular highlight from the past.

November 12 – December 17, 2015

Words

Over the next six weeks, The Cinematheque in Vancouver is hosting an incredible season of films in collaboration with Monte Clark Gallery. "Motivated by Jeff Wall’s history as a former film programmer at The Cinematheque, Traces That Resemble Us invites twelve prominent Vancouver-based artists to each program a film that has been influential to his or her practice, and to exhibit artwork for a corresponding group exhibition." This exciting event includes a wide range of classic, cult and off-beat films selected by the aforementioned Wall, alongside Rodney Graham, Myfanwy MacLeod and Stan Douglas, among others. The first two features, Contempt and Dog Day Afternoon selected by Ian Wallace and Dana Claxton respectively, will be shown this evening, with a new pairing screened every Thursday until December 17th.

Mourne Textiles

01

Image

01. Woven in Donegal, Ireland.

Words

I first became aware of Mourne Textiles through the Margaret Howell website. Their beautiful wool products have been available from the brand's shops in the UK, Europe and Japan for some time, but have now been picked up by Kaufmann Mercantile, making them easier for those of us in North America to get our hands on. The online store has merino wool pillows and throws in a selection of textured tweed knits, neutral enough to work seamlessly with any and all decor.

Words

Richardson have increased their range of soft goods this fall, adding more jackets, T-shirts and accessories to the mix. One of my favourite items is the Stealth Cap, a collaboration with Ebbets Field Flannels featuring a clean embroidered graphic on black wool, with hardware and an adjustable leather strap to match.
