Shot on location at the Japan Lutheran College by Kiyotaka Hatanaka, the MHL Spring-Summer '12 look book has been doing the rounds on various blogs and websites over the last few days. And understandably so: the clothes, styling, light and location all work together to portray a look and mood that perfectly encapsulates the MHL line.

MHL Packable Rain Hat

01

Image

—01. Available in Yellow & Navy.

Words

Margaret Howell's spring collection includes some beautiful knitwear and shirting, as usual, but the MHL accessories are often the unsung hero. The packable rain hat this spring is made from 80% cotton and 20% PU, making it lightweight, functional and it also happens to stow away rather easily when needed.

On Sale: MHL Outdoor Jacket

01

Info

—01. Charcoal Military wool.

Words

On my quick stop at the new MHL shop in London, I noticed one piece that stood out. It's now on sale, making it especially enticing at the moment. The blanket check lining combined with the charcoal Military wool works well. The cut of the jacket is classic Marget Howell, which suits the detailing and materials nicely.

MHL Kagool Parka

01

Images

—01. Classic cut and considered details.
—02. Moss coloured, 100% cotton.

Words

The longer fitting parka is something I've always found difficult to wear. I own a couple of examples, most notably a classic A.P.C. model and last season's Storm Parka from Engineered Garments, but traditionally I'm much more comfortable with outerwear that stops around the waist. Having said that, I've always admired the classic lines a longer fitting trench or parka can give an outfit, especially when it comes to layers. The balance between various lengths, when done correctly, can give an outfit a nice sense of depth. The Kagool Parka from Margaret Howell's MHL line looks to me like a sensible wardrobe addition for anyone seeking something longer for the fall. All the details are in the right place, and nothing is fussy or over-designed. As is the case with a lot of MHL pieces, the jacket looks to fit a little on the looser, boxier side; which I happen to think actually works well on this type of garment.

MHL Typhoon Hat

01

Images

—01. Navy cotton, water repellent.

Words

One of the best bucket/rain hats we've seen just arrived the other day. Apart of the MHL collection from Margaret Howell, this washed blue cotton hat has a great shape, and sits nicely on your head. It's broken down fabric allows it to look natural, while its repellent characteristics make it ideal in the sun or the rain.

—01. Walkers jacket.
—02. Gingham work shirt.
—03. Ticket pocket trousers.

Words

Margaret Howell's spring collection arrived from London a few days ago. The collection is quite large, but as usual we took a close look and edited down our buy to build a nice cohesive look and feel that would blend nicely with our own favorite items, as well as those on the rails in the shop. The gingham workshirt is a great color, and looks nice alongside any other shades of blue. The pieces all look and feel better than I remember when we saw them last summer. The Walkers jacket is another standout, along with the trousers which are some of the best the brand has produced.
